iCNN is a bare-bones news application that brings you the latest news articles from CNN.com. The app starts up with a list of the most recent news headlines. The articles are time stamped, with the most recent ones at the top of the list. Tapping on an article will open up the app’s browser and bring you to CNN.com to read the entire story. Most of the time, the text is too small to read, so you’ll need to pinch or double tap to zoom in. After reading an article, you can head back to the main list of headlines and the app will save whatever position you were at on the list.

A nice included feature is the ability to share an article through email, right from inside the application. However, this is really the only feature this app has to offer. There is much more to talk about regarding what this app doesn’t have rather than what it does have. First of all, you can’t share an article to Twitter or Facebook. This is becoming a standard in almost every application you see in the app store. There are no options to save an article for later reading. There are no sections to browse through such as politics, technology or health. You can’t even watch any videos from CNN.com because the iPhone and iPod Touch do not support flash.

This application is as bare-bones as it can get for a newsreader. On the other hand, maybe this is what you like. Maybe you are the type of person that needs the simplest newsreader possible, without all the bells and whistles. If so, then this app is for you! However, with all of the other great news apps out there, I just don’t see any other reason to buy this application. CNN has come out with their own application with an abundance of features that makes it probably the best news app out there. I strongly suggest checking out some other news applications available in the app store. This one just doesn’t offer much of anything to justify its purchase.
