iDrum: Depeche Mode Sounds of the Universe is a music remix and creation app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With this app, you can use sound clips from Depeche Mode's "Sounds of the Universe" album to create or remix songs.

When you first open the app, you will be taken to a list where you can choose "kits" that you have created yourself, or one of the many that come default with the application. Tapping the question mark in the upper right hand corner will give you a very brief introduction to the app, then basically tell you to figure out the rest for yourself. On the bottom left hand corner, you can tap the arrow to pause/play a kit, or change the tempo. Tapping the plus sign in the top left will create a new kit based off of the last kit played.

Tapping on the arrow next to a kit title will allow you to edit the song. To start editing, tap on a grid to zoom in on it, then tap on another grid to begin editing. Each cell will be played from the left to the right, starting at the top and ending at the bottom. You can control the volume of a cell by tapping, then dragging up or down. The button in the top right corner will allow you to choose what kind of sound effects will be used for that grid. To play the song in it's entirety, simply press the back button until you have reached the main grid. Here you can also convert that song into a ringtone to be used on your iPhone.

If you are a first time user of any of the iDrum applications, then the interface of this app will be very daunting. There are no instructions on how to do various things with this application, other than how to get started editing a song. It is evident, however, that this application is very powerful. There are simply infinite amounts of songs and beats that could be created, and you are only limited by your imagination. Though, if you have experience with other iDrum branded apps, then you will feel right at home. Many of the sound effects are techno oriented, which may or may not be the right thing for you. If you are into music creation on your iPhone, and are willing to play around to discover all of the features of this app, then I would recommend this app for you. It is extremely powerful, and once you get the hang of it, it can also be fun too.
