iFun is the most interesting addition to the line-up of apps offered by SGN. They?ve really out done themselves with this iPhone and iPod Touch app as it takes the game away from just your iPhone and turns it into so much more. As iFun is going to be a platform for many different games in the future, this review is dealing with its initial launch and the golf game it offered at launch.
By now you?re probably thinking to yourself, ?But SGN already released iGolf!? and you would be correct! The thing is, this isn?t iGolf. iFun as a platform allows you to log in to a brand new account that you have to register for on their website, link it to your Facebook if you like, then start using your device as a controller in this web game. The first and only web game released so far for this platform is Golf.
Without the web component, all you can really do on this app is customize your avatar. There aren?t a ton of options for this, so don?t expect anything amazing. When you?re connected on your computer and on your device, you?ll notice that the screen on your device will simple display all the control information for the game. You?ll be able to change your club, the direction your facing, and even start your swing. If you have any sync issues you can press resync to make sure everything is in check.
Over WiFi, this game ran like a breeze. The concept is so fresh and perfect for the iPhone and iPod Touch. SGN is planning on opening up the SDK to other developers, which is a really smart idea as it gives developers a reason to use the platform and just focus on building the game instead of having to build an entire system. This is the type of innovative app that the iPhone and iPod Touch have been waiting for. Expect great things from this platform.
