iKite is a simple game for the iPhone and iPod Touch that has you flying a kite with no goal in mind other than to beat your last record of time spent in the air and to avoid the birds flying about.
Starting the app brings you to a clipboard that serves as a menu screen. From there you can view the basics of how to fly your kite. I would recommend reading the tutorial, as the controls take a bit of getting used to. By tapping "Location" on the menu screen, you can change the setting of the place you want to fly in, which effectively changes the background image and the birds that you need to avoid. By tapping the "Gear" menu, you can select which kite you wish to fly. The different kites offer different styles to flying: Some can turn sharply, while others simply fly faster. If you crash into the ground or a bird, the time you have been flying is reset. Thankfully, the developers had enough insight to pause the game when both fingers are removed from the screen to prevent crashing.

You can view your top records from the "Report" button on the main menu which will show you the number of times you have flown and your longest time in the air without crashing. While you are flying your kite, you can open up the menu by tapping the "X" in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Flying a kite its self is something that cannot be described in words, but once you learn the controls you will understand how to fly.
The art direction in this app is very similar to Flight Control and the game itself runs very smoothly. That said, I find that this app is very boring. With other games, there is usually a social level, or a goal that does not have to be completed but allows you to gain more items if you do. Although one of the kite's description says that it is meant for doing tricks, I have yet to figure out one other than playing chicken with the birds or spinning my kite around like crazy. This wouldn't matter as much if this app was free or 99 cents, but seeing as this app is $1.99 there is a little bit more to be expected. I would recommend a pass on this app as $1.99 seems to be asking a little too much. However, if you would like to give this app a try, a Lite version is available in the app store.
