Radio applications are all over the place in the app store. Everywhere you look there is a new app stating it has the widest selection of radio stations to choose from. Then there are the applications such as Pandora, Imeem Mobile, and the new Slacker Radio app that will constantly play a selection of music based off a genre, artist or even song that you select. The Slacker Radio application is one of the few that pull this off right.
The app has you make an account on slacker.com and then jumps right into streaming music to you. Simply putting the name of an artist or song as well as choosing a genre that interests you will give the app enough information to build a playlist.
As is the case with other streaming radio apps, you are only allowed 6 skips per hour per station without paying a monthly subscription that opens up other options. The app boasts to having over 4 times as much music as Pandora though it is really hard to determine if that is true. What is really nice about this app is that it allows the user to narrow down the song selections by customizing your station. Options like how often favorites are played or what generation and overall popularity of the songs are played can be set.
This app is excellent and really did work as expected to. For all the options available, I prefer this player to the Pandora app but it may just come down to personal preference. If you have a yearning for some new music, check out Slacker Radio, it really does its job.
