Utilities » JotNot Scan Review

JotNot Scan is a document digitizer for the iPhone. The idea is very simple. If there is a document, receipt or other piece of information that a users wants to digitize and store on their device for future reference or for organization, JotNot will do that work for you. The application is really simple and straightforward with only two buttons for users to press: Take Picture or Import Photo. Taking a picture will allow the user to find a receipt and take a photograph of it and have it digitized immediately. After selecting a photo, users are taken to a screen that has four corners that can be dragged to select the piece of information you need.

If the piece is crooked, the app will automatically adjust it based on the parameters the users sets for the corners.

Once finished, the photo is then processed and the user can choose to save the image or not. An interesting feature for those who are worried about privacy: JotNot does not upload the image to a server and instead all processing of the image is done right in the app. This allows users to be comfortable with the fact that the picture of say a receipt is not stored somewhere on the internet. JotNot is not to be used with any color images really and is really only optimized for black print on a white background. I had some distortion when I tried doing one with color and reversed.

For the price this app is being offered for, it really is only an app for those who really want to use their phone for this specific task. Otherwise, it does not do enough to justify the price.
