The Kenny Chesney app is absolutely one of the best artist applications I’ve seen thus far. For Chesney fans, this is a mobile app dream come true. There’s a ton of content to view, including news, Twitter feeds, concert calendar, photos and video. Probably the best feature is the ability to stream the internet radio station, “No Shoes Radio.†This is Kenny’s own creation and, supposedly, plays music he loves, from his very own collection.
The main page reflects the theme of the entire app; a laid back, tropical oasis where country music rules over all. The UI is gorgeous and the background is customizable, allowing you to select one of the many photos available. The first thing you’ll want to do is turn on the “No Shoes Radio†station. Once it starts streaming, you can leave that page and browse through the entire app while the music keeps playing. There are no options to skip songs, but you can view the history of played songs, with the option to buy each one from the iTunes store. The station is actually pretty nice to listen to, as it’s not just country music, but rather a variety of different styles.
The media page includes photos from both Kenny and his fans. The video section offers premium content as well as fan covers from YouTube submissions. There are some great photos and videos you’ll probably want to share with your friends and family. However, the only way to do so is through email. It was disappointing to find out that you couldn’t share content via Tiwtter and Facebook. There is also a music page that allows you to purchase songs, whole albums and ringtones from the iTunes store. You can preview the songs, just like in iTunes, but you’ll need to leave the app to actually make a purchase.
The store is actually pretty neat. You can browse through quite a few different items and make a purchase right from inside the app. For a true Chesney fan, it may actually be a bad thing that they made it so easy to spend your money.
The last few areas to explore are the tour dates, ticket purchase, news stream and Twitter feeds. The news feed is just as disappointing as the media page, as you are denied the option to share articles via Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter feeds include tweets made my Kenny, fans and yourself. Twitter is integrated right into the app, so the whole process is simple and intuitive.
The application does lack some features that should be standard in any app of its type. However, being free, it’s truly a must-have app for all fans of Kenny Chesney. If for nothing else, get it for the streaming radio station.
