Kooaba Search is an interesting idea that unfortunately falls a little short due to how specific it is. This app allows you to take pictures of newer movie posters and send it over to their servers. If you took a good enough picture or a picture of a poster they've got on file, it'll spit out some information about the movie back to you.
The concept is very interesting. Using image recognition to provide information on something that people quickly pass is great. Unfortunately how long it takes you to load up the app and snap a picture is far more time consuming the actually looking for the name of the movie written on the poster.
The database they pull from is unfortunately limited at this point.
Meaning you may not find any information for that specific movie if the poster is older then the database has available. Which is very likely. They do have plans on expanding their service to encompass DVDs and CDs as well, but as of yet that isn't helping anyone.
Kooaba Search is a great concept that needs to be developed a little bit more before it becomes useless. If you could search by the name of the movie, DVD, or CD then this would be much quicker and more enjoyable. Then again the database would have to be up to speed to make it worthwhile.
