Kroll takes the fun of classic arcade beat-em-ups and delivers them directly to the iPhone. The game has excellent graphics and an interesting storyline to support it. Armed with a magical Surma mace, your objective is to beat all of the enemies that stand in your way as you journey towards the end of the level.
You'll first notice how great the graphics look in this game at the menu screen. All of your options are laid out in what looks like an ancient book and whenever you move to a different menu option, the page will actually turn. When you're ready to play, you can select from two difficulties, normal and hard, with insane as an unlockable. There are three different chapters to play through as well, but again, you need to unlock them by beating the previous one.
The game play is standard beat-em-up. You have six controls on your screen that allow you to move, perform a normal attack, or perform a strong attack for both the left and right sides. Enemies will come at you from both sides of the screen to attack you.
Unfortunately there isn't any way to block, so you'll have to just hit them first. As you continue to kill enemies your Surma will become more powerful. There are two powerups for it: a super smash and a resurrection. The super smash requires you to shake your iPhone to activate it. You're better off saving the resurrection for those harder levels.
Kroll becomes an epic game when you get to the boss fights. It really feels like the God of War series of games when you're going head to head against a creature ten times your size. You don't fight the boss the same way you do the other enemies, so it does mix things up a bit. Kroll is a really enjoyable game with amazing graphics that any arcade fan should definitely check out.
