Hey everyone, Dungeon Master Ben here! There?s nothing I hate more than lugging around a whole mess of dice. It?s not a problem any more though, because mach dice brings it all to your iPhone.
If you don?t know how role playing dice work, this app may confuse you a bit. Let me explain, for the uninitiated. In the numeral, d, numeral system, the first number is the number of dice to be rolled. The d is for DICE.
The second number is the number of sides on the dice being rolled.
In order to change the number and side of the dice, simply tap the white bar at the top. You then enter the number and sides of the dice to be rolled, in the numeral, d, numeral format. This app also allows you to automatically add numbers onto your roll, so your ranger friend can automatically have his dexterity modifier added to his attack rolls! For instance, you could roll 2d10+8, simply by entering that exactly on the keypad, and 8 would be added to the total of your 2 10 sided die.
To roll the dice, you can either tap the roll button at the bottom, or shake the iphone. The app makes good use of the accelerometer, and the dice seem to actually move in whatever direction you?re shaking the phone. The dice have a great textured look to them, and tilting the phone will make them appear 3d, although this sometimes looks a bit messy.
I tested the randomness of this app, as other lower quality dice rollers I?ve used in the past always felt like they were rolling too many low numbers. When I rolled 100 10 sided dice, and took a statistical average, it was 5.2! That?s well within my margin for error! It?s good to see that this app was written with a true random number generator, a MUST for any serious dice roller.
The background can be changed using the small arrow keys on the bottom, and the dice color can be changed as well.
