Merlin's Legacy is a very unique game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Seemingly a cross between an RPG and tower defense type game, Merlin's Legacy will challenge players with it's surprising depth and strategy. The game is all about wizard wars.

The object of the game is to defeat the wizard across from you with different spells that will counter the spells cast by your opponent The player starts out with only two spells at their disposal, but as they continue defeated wizards, they will gain more interesting spells with some useful attributes. Each spell is assigned to a place in the wizards bottom bar, with the bar only being able to hold up to 5 spells at a time. The wizard is forced to choose the correct grouping of spells to get the job done. Each spell has its own unique features such as the skeletons that will spawn after the closest gravestone to the enemy or different missile spells that will leave different lasting effects on the area they are cast. The game becomes a battle of out-thinking the other player and choosing the right spells at the right time. One downside to this game, there is no multiplayer. This is a bit disappointing for a game that is all about wit and strategy.

But for what this game has to offer, it a refreshing look into the different types of games that can be successful on the iPhone. This game has the polish and overall challenge to become one of the better games offered on the iPhone. I recommend checking it out, it is priced in the medium range but earns every penny of that money. Aside from the lack of multiplayer, Merlin's Legacy is a great game that will keep you fighting for quite a while. It offers achievements and different tournament modes that will keep the battle going. Check it out.
