Music » Midomi Review

When you can't figure out a song in someone else's car or at a store, Midomi is the iPhone App to turn to. Better yet, if you miss getting your iPhone out to catch the song, you can just hum or sing what you remember into your iPhone and it will pick it up. If it wasn't for the fact that most people using their iPhone would be listening to music on their iPhone, this completely free app would receive a straight 5 out of 5 rating.
The interface is a really sharp orange that catches your eye, and all of the icons are very straight forward as well. The singing part of Midomi is the only really hit or miss aspect of the program, but if you remember the words, you can actually search for them under the ?Type? icon.

With the song actually playing, even with it low and background noise all around, you can still manage to pick it up and get it to recognize. From there you can bookmark it, view YouTube videos of it, or even set it to purchase from iTunes. Midomi offers a lot of information about the artist and album as well, regardless of which way you find the song you're looking for.
Other music finding applications tend to provide no results if it cant find what you're looking for, Midomi at least gives it a shot and suggests what it thinks it could possibly be. While it may not be accurate 100% of the time when you sing, it's definitely worth having for those few times you don't have your headphones on, rocking out to your own music.

Good idea for when you need it

Many a time I have found myself sitting with a group of frustrated friends all trying to figure out the name of a song that we cant remember.  I guess this is the app to help eliminate that situation!  I have hummed into it a few times and only once has it let me down so I guess it is pretty useful in aleviating my irritation when I cant remember a particular song title.  Good to have!

Try Shazam as well...

Midomi works well for humming, but Shazam is absolutely amazing for sampling a piece from the radio. I've even used it to learn what songs are on commercials. If you like Midomi, try Shazam as well -- you'll be impressed.
