Games » Modern Combat Sandstorm Review

It's no secret, First Person Shooters dominate consoles as the most played gametype online. It should come as no surprise that the genre would make it's way to handheld devices. There have been plenty of first person shooter apps to enter the app store. We've seen ports of older generation games like Duke Nukem and Wolfenstien as well as some newer one's like Prey.

Even though these games have a great nostalgic feel and some unique features, they didn't sit right and the controls on most were almost unbearable. Modern Combat: Sandstorm is a new FPS that is by far the best shooter in the appstore to date.

Everything seems to work right in this game. The controls are the most fluid and common sense that I've seen yet and almost never takes away from the game experience. The game plays just like any modern shooter, sticking you in squad in charge of taking out hostiles in the area and completing objectives. This game, as far as I am concerned, is the closest we can get to a true FPS experience at the moment.

The only downside that I can find to this game is the auto lock, which, although helpful, will sometimes get in the way and make things feel automated. Add that and the sad lack of multiplayer which would make this the goto game for fragging, and you have the only complaints I can find with this game. It is well done and deserves the praise that it will definitely receive.

I think you\'re much too hyped about the game. There isn\'t a single part about Modern Combat that\'s unique.

I just completed the game, and I have to say, it was kinda meh. Yeah, the graphics are great, although I encounter lot\'s of grapical bugs, like soldats flying or standing in the wall. I\'ve taken pictures, if you want to see them. And the music is just bad, just the typical \'war-music\', we already know it. At least I do, because I play other FPS games.

Maybe the best thing about this game are the controls: this is the first time a FPS controls good on a iPod. I\'m very happy with that, and I\'ve got nothing to say about it.

Then Value: it\'s just too short. I completed the game in an hour plus ten minutes or something on hard. Well, I don\'t pay 7 dollar for that less of playtime. Sure, if you compare it to console games, maybe it isn\'t so bad value for the price you pay, but this is an iPod game. And after you completed the game, it isn\'t much fun to play it all over again.

Gameloft promised a multiplayer mode, but what concerns me is that they announced it before the game even launched. Then they said they delayed the game, but one day later the game just appeared in the App Store. This is no good sign. Let me guess: we ain\'t getting a multiplayer mode, because they can\'t make it. Or it will take a long time. That isn\'t bad, but developers have to learn to release games only when they\'re 100% completed, not 50%.

I am not saying you\'re review is bad, we both just have other opinions. I don\'t know if you\'re a console gamer, but it felt like I already played Modern Combat a few times before I began. That could be a good sign, but I think it isn\'t in FPS games. Modern Combat is just another standard FPS. Sure, it\'s a milestone that they accomplished those graphics and controls on an iPod, but we want some Value too.
