As a little kid, one of my favorite games to play with my brothers was Hungry Hungry Hippos. It had just enough action, user interaction, and dumb luck to keep my little mind entertained. While my love of the game hasn’t changed, it has long since been replaced by games with more challenge and strategy. Monsters Love Gum is basically an advanced version of Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Instead of a bunch of African mammals munching down metallic balls, the game has crazy monsters grabbing colored balls with their tongues. It’s set up so you can select various monsters with different skills such as longer range or faster shots, but the difference really didn’t seem to change the outcome much. This is because the game really felt somewhat sloppy. Instead of intense rounds with balls bouncing everywhere, it felt like I was randomly grabbing floating dots out of the sky and the game would just end. There was an option for multiplayer and to send various danger balls to screw up enemy players, but it all felt a little unfinished.
Overall, the game could be fun for a little kid, but I don’t suggest it for adults in any way.
