It seems like there are more and more battery apps making their way into the app store. It's such a simple concept, to calculate remaining battery time for multiple activities on your device. But, some battery apps are better than others.
myBatteryLife presents only one page of data. The total percent remaining is displayed largely at the top of the screen. Due to Apple's API limitations, this number is only accurate to the nearest five percent. I've found this to be the same with other battery apps. There is also a large battery that takes up most of the screen to give you a visual representation of how much power you have left. The actual time left for all your device activities is listed on the left. The app will display time left for talk, internet on edge or 3G, internet on Wifi, video playback and audio playback.
That's it for this app. There's not much to see here. The app offers you the total percentage of battery life remaining and times for specific device activities. It's definitely useful to know how much time you have left to actually talk on your phone.
Or, maybe you need to know if you have enough power to watch that feature length movie on your device. A battery app like this is certainly something to keep on your iPhone or iPod Touch. But, after reviewing other battery applications, I have to say that there are other apps that do more than myBatteryLife.
The iTunes description for this app states that it also displays gaming and standby times. I don't see either of these on the screen. Also, the developer says this is the only battery app that allows you to customize the user interface. I tried tapping all over the place and checking out the iPhone settings, but could not actually customize anything. Maybe it would be nice to customize the font or that big battery's color, but you can't.
Overall, the app is simple but useful. The price point makes it a worthwhile purchase. But, I encourage you to check out some other battery apps out there that do a bit more for the same price.
