As the iPad’s popularity continues to grow, mainstream media is starting to open up to the idea of creating apps for the masses. One of these large companies is National Geographic. While there are pretty much endless possibilities as to the kind of app they could have created, for some reason they decided to make a jigsaw puzzle app. To show off some of the beautiful artwork that only National Geographic can provide, they decided to offer an interactive experience that will both challenge and awe users at the same time.
The result, however, is quite the opposite. Mixed with clunky controls and a very boring experience, this app ends up feeling too simple and really doesn’t offer anything exciting. Users can view the photos without having to build a puzzle but even that experience is lacking any type of innovation or creativity. This was sad because I was hoping for an entertaining app and instead got a mess of an app that couldn’t decide what it wanted to be.
Overall, the photos are great and it definitely has some value, but it really just felt like a big waste of time.
