The NYTimes iPhone app takes all the functionality of the web app and package it in a much cleaner and easier to use fashion. The application is fully customizable, allowing you to select which sections of the New York Times are displayed on the bottom toolbar for easy access. The news displayed is for the current day only as the New York Times does have a paid service online that allows you to view their achieves. It's understandable that they left that out of the iPhone app as you probably won't be using it to do research.

The news articles load with their main picture (if applicable) in a timely fashion even on the slower EDGE network. There's also a category that just allows you to view the pictures for the articles if that is more your thing.
Considering the high quality of the photos and the excellent photographers at the New York Times, it's disappointing to see that you can't save any of the pictures to your iPhone from the application itself. You can open Safari and visit the regular or iPhone web app site to grab those pictures, but that doesn't have much to do with the app.For those of you who aren't avid newspaper readers, this is a great way to keep up with current events without having to spend a significant amount of time to do so. Having the ability to quickly load up the nations most powerful newspaper in just a few seconds and skim through the headlines is a powerful enough application that you should really consider keeping this on your iPhone.

Needs an Update Bad

User rated 3/5
Review by mikempls

I think your review if this app is not that accurate.  While this app has great potential, it is painfully slow to load as well as takes a long time to update (which is understandable given the amount of data)

You can also save up to the last seven days worth of data, not just one day as your reviewer noted.  The app also does not update every article - there have been many times I've tried to read an article offline and seen the message saying it has not been downloaded.

Unfortunatley the folks at the Times have only updated this app one time since it was released months ago and reading the reviews in the app store you'll see I'm not alone in my complaints.
