Music » Ocarina Review

Ocarina is an app for the iPhone that turns your device into an Ocarina. Obviously you'll default to thinking Legend of Zelda when you hear Ocarina, and that's completely fine. In fact, we at AppVee lost several hours trying to learn the Legend of Zelda songs on this app.

When you load up the app, you'll see a very simple interface. There are four buttons, an arrow showing you where to blow into the mic, and an antenna that shows when you're blowing into the mic. If you press the antenna, you'll load up the menu bar. This gives you four options: Ocarina, World View, Settings, and Information. World view brings you to the global view and actually lets you listen in to what people are playing.
Settings is where you can change the key and tonality of your Ocarina.

You can even give it a name here. This allows you to stand out in World View. Playing the Ocarina can be rather hard at times. You'll need to practice getting the mic to pick you up correctly. Smule recommends you make quick breaths into the mic for the best results.
It will take some getting use to but it's a blast to play around with. Smule has put out a good deal of apps since the launch of the iPhone. They all offer the same world location features that take advantage of the iPhones A-GPS and have a decent 3D model of the world to show it off. This is the first of their apps that we've actually found addicting and worth the $0.99 that they charge. Considering there's a forum that you're able to fill with your Ocarina tablature, this app is a must have for music and Zelda fans everywhere.
