Parallel Kingdom is a Massive Multiplayer Trans-Reality Game (MMTRG) for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game has been of great interest to both the gaming and mobile community for quite some time and is now finally available for the public to play. Parallel Kingdom locates you and allows you to explore a virtual world that is placed right on top of ours.
Parallel Kingdom is very similar to Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games like World of Warcraft in how combat, treasure, and other game mechanics work. What makes it "trans-reality" is the fact that your location and actions in the game are based on where you are in the real world. The entire country is part of the game world so while you can't exactly travel wherever you like in just the game, as you move in the real world your game environment changes.
To make things more enjoyable, the developers have given you a sizeable radius around your current location to explore. You'll find monsters, items, and other players just by exploring. In the iPhone version, the radius is more of a square and you'll find the focus stays around the player more so then the Android version. Tapping on a creature or an item will pull up a list of interaction options that usually consist of attacking the creature or taking the item.

When you do run across another player, you can actually start a chat and have them join it, making this game very social.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the game never stops. You'll receive email alerts telling you that you've been attacked or even killed. There doesn't seem to be a sleep feature on this yet, but it wouldn't be too difficult for the developers to let you declare one area as your safe place or inn. If you die, you lose a chunk of your gold and start back out at full health. This isn't awful but it's less than ideal.
The whole concept behind it is interesting and the best part is that it's free. As of launch day there already was a good deal of people playing. Considering the developers plan to expand the game even further with multiple "ages" of the game. We'll have to wait and see exactly how this pans out across all the platforms, but for launch day, the iPhone version has had some hiccups while the Android version seems to run without any problem.
