Phaze is a futuristic racing game similar to games like F-Zero or the iPhone exclusive Low Grav Racer. It is set in the same setting as these other games with it's hovering racing craft and high speed competition. The game features some of the familiar settings that we are now used to and offers a control scheme that can be great at times and really harnesses the power of the device. The acceleration is handled by tilting the device forward to speed up, backwards to to brake, and left and right to turn.
There are various powerups available that will either give you weapons to use or different defense tools at your disposal. The game itself ran fine with some pretty good graphics overall. But that really wasn't enough to sell me completely on the game.
It has a quick play option and a championship mode, but it really lacks a career mode or a multiplayer option. There are no statistics or high score options available which can sometimes ruin the excitement of a race. Another feature that really bugged me was the lack of radar. Enemy racers cannot be placed on a map and therefore strategies are hard to use because the opponents could really be anywhere.
There are 3 different racers and 16 different locations to visit, so the replayability is still up there. With the smooth gameplay and great graphics, I recommend this app. Just don't expect the most groundbreaking app that will stay on your device forever.
