The app store is full of games that reference pirates but rarely will you find a game completely devoted to pillaging and plundering. Plunderland for the iPhone and iPod Touch is an app that takes the life of a pirate and makes it into a game. If any of you have ever played Rolando, you will immediately recognize the similarities in gameplay and graphics. It has a cartoon look that captures the free-spirit lifestyle of fictional pirates.
The object of game is very simple. Destroy ships, totem poles, and anything that gets in your way. Every time you defeat an enemy, you’ll receive some coins for your troubles. The gameplay is made up of basically 3 different pieces. You tilt the phone to move your ship across the water, pull back and release to fire your cannons, and tap on the screen to collect your coins. The game was actually very repetitive though it did keep me entertained with the sheer silliness of the characters and their interactions.
The game has plenty of unlocks to earn if you put the time into the game from different ships to upgrades to your weapons. Overall, the game was a little too repetitive and simple for my taste but I could see how this game could be very entertaining for a lot of people. It rings in at a medium price in the App Store so check it out. Visit Appolicious for more iPhone app reviews and articles.
