SUMMARY: The classic racing game is back with a brand new facelift

The classic game of Pole Position is back as an iPhone app from Namco. Control your favorite Namco decal-clad car as you race against your opponents in an attempt to achieve the best time. The entire game has received a huge face lift and now the controls are completely accelerometer based.

Besides the initial loading, the game runs pretty seamlessly. Theres a lot of options to pick through as well keeping things interesting, but when it comes down to it, the game is all about the race. No matter what mode you pick, you'll start off in a race against the clock. Acceleration is handled completely by the game itself and you're only slowed down by going off the course or pressing the brake button.

Steering works pretty well considering it all relies on the accelerometer. You'll be surprised at how accurate the controls feel compared to many other racing games. The only issue is that sometimes it needs you to be a little slanted to actually drive straight. This isn't too big of a deal and doesn't hurt game play.

If you liked the original Pole Position, you'll like this game. There's more than just racing to hook you into this game as they have a sort of achievement system that awards you for passing so many racers without crashing. The price tag is a bit steep for another racing game, but that's Namco for you.

EDIT: Since the time of this review, the price for Pole Position has dropped to $5.99. If the price was holding you back before, then now may be the time to give Pole Position a second look.
