SUMMARY: Trick a thief into revealing the location of your iPhone.

Private-I is an excellent concept for the iPhone that just needs a little bit more work. This app is made to help you locate your stolen iPhone if the person who takes the phone happens to open that app after you have configured it. The concept behind it is very strong, but the fact reminds that it is easy to identify and doesn't always work.

The first time you load up Private-I you'll be asked to enter in an email address. This is used to alert you of the location of your iPhone whenever that app is run again. Every other time the app is run, it will simply have a loading symbol claiming that it is trying to pull up pictures. It's actually sending your GPS location to your email. The longer the app stays open, the stronger the location it will give you.

There are a few problems with this app. First off, the first few emails it sends you are usually way off (e.g.: the ocean). Second, the app is called Private-I. Third, unless you have only a few apps, chances are the person taking your phone isn't going to mess around with everything. If the app had another name and logo, it would be much more useful. You can't really blame how long it takes to locate on the app itself, it's more AT&T's network.

The idea behind Private-I is great. How it actually works isn't. How many apps have you exited out of just because they take a long time to load? Why would someone sit there and wait for it to load up? If this was something you could activate remotely, it would be amazing. Until apps run in the background of the iPhone, it's another great concept that suffers from the iPhone's limitations.
