Racer from Tatem Games is a blast to play.

The concept of this game is simple. Place your finger on your car and avoid all the other cars as you pass them. The goal of the game is to travel as far as possible before losing all your lives by crashing into other cars. As you continue to avoid cars you level up and increase your speed, making it more and more difficult to avoid an accident.

While testing this game, the controls worked flawlessly for me. There is no learning curve and the concept is as easy as it gets. Move your finger anywhere on the screen and the car follows. I have to say that screenshots for this game do not do it enough justice.

From the screenshots it looks like a pretty nice 2D game with cartoonish graphics, but when you play the game or watch a video you can see that this game has a 3D feel to it.

While playing, the menu button is slightly hidden at the top left of the screen, and could be a little bigger or more clear, but it gets the job done. The menus in the game are wonderfully designed and fit the theme perfectly. It is nice how the developer continued the racing theme by making each menu item part of a highway sign. Racer includes online scoreboards so you can see where you rank among other players in the world and the game also includes enough settings so you can customize the game to your liking. There are two difficulty settings, six different car colors to choose from and you can keep track of your distance by miles or kilometers. You can also flip the screen so you can play in which ever orientation you prefer.

Racer does include a small element of luck, but with practice and enough skill you can overcome a bad situation to avoid a crash and continue on your way. This is one of those games that if you have a little bit of time it is perfect to pick up and play, but also is entertaining enough to keep you coming back again and again. You will find your self wanting to play just one more time to better your score.

All in all, this may look to some as just a simple avoidance game but with the collection of superb graphics, top notch sounds and low purchase price I recommend picking it up.
