Jules Vern Return to Mystery Island is a puzzle/adventure game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Users who have experienced the amazing series called Myst will immediately notice the similarities of the two games. Both involve prerendered screenshots and call upon the player's logic to solve the puzzle of why they are on the island in the first place.
Return to Mystery Island sends players on a wild goose chase for different objects and clues as to where they are. The game is based off of the novel by the famous writer Jules Vern and really has some great depth to it. This review will be hard to show you just how in depth the game gets but it really does provide quite the experience. The movement is handled by clicking on different points of intererest but what makes this game really stand out are the environments and puzzles. The environments can be viewed by sliding a finger on the screen. This is exactly like Google Street View and really comes quite naturally because of it. Once clicking on a point of interest, the main character will pick up an object or move to that new area. Keys and different materials must be found in order to move on and unlock the secrets of the island.
I didn't get a chance to finish the game in the duration of my review, but I can say that the game throws some interesting surprises your way. If you are a fan of adventure games like this, you will love the experience on the iPhone. There is a sequel already out and it looks like the entire series may make its way to the device. Check it out today.
