Sharp Camera is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that is supposed to make your images more vivid by improving contrast and exposure levels. Basically, if you take a photo with low or flat lighting, the app will make the image clearer and brighter.

The application opens in camera mode, ready to take a photo. There is no option for improving a photo already in your library. You can only take a new photo with the camera. This is definitely one of the major drawbacks of the app. Adding the option to improve photos previously taken would add much needed value.

Once you've take your picture, you are given the options to retake the shot or use it. If you like your photo and you tap use, the app works its magic and attempts to improve your photo by increasing exposure and contrast levels. At this point, you can flip between the original photo and the improved photo to see which one you'd like to save to your device. If you don't like either, you can retake the picture. I do like the option to quickly view the original and improved photos. However, a better option might have been to present both pictures side by side, as in the screenshots from the app store description.

Once you've saved your photo, only the one selected is put into your library, not both.

Sharp Camera definitely does something to your photos, but whether or not it actually improves them is debatable. Some of the shots I took with the app turned out grainy or too bright. The less light there is, the more grainy the improved photos seem to be. I never actually preferred the improved photo over the original. Some results look artsy, which may work out for you. However, there are many other apps out there that do what this one does and more. I never understood photo applications that only have one function. A photo app should include many different editing options, not just one. I strongly recommend staying away from this application. There are other apps out there that do much more.

Editor's Note: The yellow "Original" or "Enhanced" text overlay on each screenshot was added after the fact to differentiate the images.
