Shorthand is an app showing off an idea that I think should be incorporated more into all areas of the iPhone software. The app is very simple with only one feature that it truly has to display.

It turns letter combinations into full words or phrases that the user designates. If you are familiar with Microsoft Word\'s Autotext or the Blackberry\'s Autotype, you\'ll know what this does already. Basically, I could set up a shorthand trigger with the letters "I-D-K" and have it read those letters together and replace them with the phrase "I don\'t know". It\'s done automatically right in the app and seamlessly works into your writing. With this tool, entire emails that use common phrases or sentences can be written in literally seconds provided the user has set up their application to do so. You could even set the app up to insert a line break and then your entire name and address with only one letter. Overall, this app has found a piece that is missing in the iPhone software and has built an area where you can take advantage of this feature. It is really cheap in the appstore and for anyone who is consistently writing emails back and forth and would like to speed that process up, this app is perfect. It is a shame that this feature is not found standard on the iPhone, but it is nice to see that it can still be used at all. I recommend grabbing this, it is wonderfully useful and makes typing the mundane repetitive details of your life a lot easier. Check it out.
