The Sims franchise has been around for more than a few years and has easily dominated pc gaming sales. With it's open ended gameplay that gives its players full control over their creations, Sims changed the way we thought games should be. Now jumping on the iPhone bandwagon, EA has released an iPhone version of the game along with it's PC counterpart. Now mobile users can enjoy messing around with other people's lives right from their mobile device. The app features some extremely rich content and is basically a stripped down version of the actual Sims 3 for the PC.
The game starts up with the player creating a character and then selecting from the different hairstyles, outfits and personalities to create their own look and feel. Once the character has been created, the player can then begin moving their character around and letting them live their life. The game is controlled by different buttons and cameras are controlled by pinching and the zoom button. The Sims 3 is all about exploring your town. Jobs can be earned, recipes learned and toilets used. All of these things will shape how your character acts and what goals he achieves. The graphics look great for an iPhone and the music is comprised of top-notch sims-style songs. One element that did get a bit unnerving was the constant bleep noise that occurs whenever an action is chosen. It reminded me of the annoying AOL Instant Messenger sound and I eventually turned off the sound just for that reason.
The game has a ton of depth and is well worth the purchase if you are into the casual destruction or enrichment of virtual people's lives. I definitely recommend checking it out, it'll set you back a bit, but it is one of the better games available for the iPhone.
