SMS Touch is a handy app that allows you to send text messages for free by sending the message through email. This app works on both the iPhone and the iPod Touch. As it allows you to send and receive text messages without having a text messaging plan, it?s very useful for iPod Touch users.
When you load up the app you?ll be able to turn your phone to landscape mode or keep it in portrait mode to type. Once you determine the orientation you?d like to stick with, you can enter the phone number of the person you?d like to text. This can be done manually or you can press the plus button on the right hand side. After that you can enter in your message manually in the big box below.
The way this app works is pretty neat. What it does is finds the email address associated with the mobile number you?re texting. When you press send, it loads your message up in a new email message with no subject. If you have a signature attached to your emails you may want to turn it off as it will automatically add that to your message and possibly make your text messages too long. Your recipient will receive the text message how they normally would and their reply will go to your email, but don?t respond back through email unless you want the entire message resent to them.
This app allows you to send text messages in landscape mode through email without a text message plan. That on it?s own is great, but this app could take advantage of a counter to let you know how many characters you have left in that specific message before you end up over. Either way, this is a must have app for anyone with a limited text messaging plan or an iPod Touch.
