Social Networking » SociAll Review

SociAll is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to view all of your favorite social networking sites in one location. The idea is great, but the execution is poor.

The app supports sixteen social networking sites and offers fast switching between all of them while you remain logged in. The very bottom of the screen will display quick access buttons for four sites, with a fifth button that brings up a list of the rest. You can customize which sites are displayed here and in what order. The first time you access each site, you’ll need to enter in your username and password, but after that you will be automatically signed in.

The major problem with this app is that it only brings up the mobile versions of each site, so it’s just like you’re using safari. When using Facebook, the buttons are too close together and you will frequently tap the wrong one. The only navigation buttons the app actually has are located at the very top and act just like a web browser. You can go back a page, forward a page, home and refresh. Even the app’s navigation buttons are done poorly.

They are too small and give little feedback when you tap on them.

When using Twitter, you can’t do much, as the mobile version only really lets you view your timeline and change your status. You can’t attach a picture, audio clip, video clip or even search. It can get very frustrating using the mobile version of a social networking site after being used to amazing apps like Twittelator, Tweetie and Facebook.

SociAll has a great concept in this application. The ability to log into all your favorite social sites in one application is very convenient. However, the app only uses the mobile versions of these sites and it’s incredibly annoying to use. Navigation is horrible and there are tons of features missing. This concept would only succeed with an intuitive user interface that was jam packed with all the features you know and love from the leading applications. If all you’re looking for is an app to simply read all of your friends’ status updates, then this app might be for you. But, if you are a power user that enjoys tons of features, then I would strongly recommend passing on this application.
