Sonic the Hedgehog is a character only second in popularity to Mario himself and is the gem of SEGA's once great empire. After being on several consoles and a couple handheld devices, the super fast blue hedgehog has now made it to the iPhone and iPod Touch to fly through levels at lightning speed. Right from the beginning as the classic SEGA intro rolls across the screen, you know you're in for a blast from the past. Featuring the exact same graphics and excellent soundtrack from the original Sega Genesis game, Sonic the Hedgehog will bring you back to the days sitting on the couch trying not to lose all your rings.

The game starts up quickly and is basically a port of the original game. The controls are handled by the onscreen joystick and A button. The view can be switched from fullscreen to an arcade mode which basically shrinks the screen. Why anyone would want to switch is beyond me, but the option is there. There is not much more to the game that can be customized but it is amazing just to have it on my phone. I did however notice plenty of slowdowns in game. There would be plenty of times when the game would slow up and I'd have to wait for a while for it to catch up with itself. This could just be the sheer amount of apps that I personally have on my device and it may be different for most of you.

The game is retailing for a medium sized price and is well worth it for the classic game that is being offered. This is one of the games that defined that generation of consoles. It still is the old Sonic we all fell in love with and with that I recommend grabbing this app.
