If you haven't heard about Spore yet, you've probably been living under a rock. This game has been all over the place recently and for dedicated gamers it has been something that they've been dying to get their hands on for a long time. After it launched on the PC, Mac, and Nintendo DS yesterday, Spore has officially made its way over to the iPhone.
There are a lot of options for you to dig through in Spore Origins. First off, there are two game play modes: Evolution and Survival. Evolution is very similar to the actual Spore game for the PC, where you control your amoeba like character in an attempt to eat up all the smaller organisms to get larger. Along the way you'll find powerups that will unlock different evolutionary pieces for you to customize your character with. In Survival, you're in control of a generic creature and your goal is to simply survive. You need to keep eating the yellow food pellets to make it through the level while avoiding the other creatures. But keep your eyes peeled for powerups to make things more interesting and easier.
Your creature is fully customizable, down to it's very name. You can pinch and stretch the shape of the body, add different eyes, pinchers, feelers, and anything else you unlock. Plus you can even skin the creature with photos you've taken on your iPhone instead of simply using their premade color sets. The character creator is very similar to the computer versions early stages, so you really get the full Spore experience when designing an amoeba in Spore: Origins.
The biggest problem with Spore Origins is the controls. It's hard to move around considering it's all accelerometer based. While you can change the default tilt of the device so that it's easier based on how you hold it, you'll still find yourself twisting around in awkward positions. For a game that has received a lot of hype, it has surely lived up to the expectations on all platforms so far.
