SpringFling is a fun, vertical platformer that puts you in control of a single spring that must fling itself upward from ledge to ledge in order to achieve the top height. With solid graphics, smooth animations and fun gameplay, it’s something to check out.
The first thing to take notice about this game is that anyone can pick it up and play it without much effort. All you have to do is tap and hold anywhere on the screen to engage your spring. Slide your finger down to compress the spring, slide left or right for direction and then release. Your spring will launch into the air and hopefully land on a higher ledge. However, each time you launch, your spring’s power will deplete. So, you’ll want to get as high as you can on each launch. If you fail to land on any ledge, your spring will fall to the ground and you will lose the game.
Along the way you will discover several power ups to help you achieve the best height possible. These power ups include balloons, rockets and pogo sticks, each of which carry you far higher than a single spring jump alone would. There are also power ups that increase your spring’s power level.
The goal of each level is to achieve the highest possible height. The level ends when your spring power is empty. Along the way, you may reach pit stops that will refill your spring power so you can continue on.
If you don’t reach a pit stop and your spring power becomes empty, you will lose the level.
Very rarely do you see games like this offer character customization. But, in this game, you can collect clothing items throughout each level and change your spring’s outfit. You can add hats, glasses, facial hair and other items you may find along the way. This definitely adds some humor to the game, as your spring jumps around wearing a cowboy hat and 3D goggles.
SpringFling is absolutely a fun and addicting game to play. I only have a few criticisms that bring the score down. The music really doesn’t match the gameplay at all. Many times, while I expect to hear some bouncy cartoon-type music, the music will actually be some sort of lounge-type music. It just doesn’t fit. Also, the game only has five levels to play in. Each level is vertically unlimited, but there are still only five different environments to experience. Also, it would be nice to have more power ups and items to collect throughout each level. This lack of content really does affect the game’s value. Regardless, the game is simply fun and I strongly suggest trying it out.
