SUMMARY: A cute and addictive sling-shot mini game.

If you’ve ever played Super Mario DS, then this app probably looks familiar. It’s virtually identical to a mini game included in the N64 port we’ve all logged hours and hours into. Right off the bat, it’s hard to tell if it is worth two dollars for such little game.

The premise of the game is pretty much as simple as it gets. Yellow stars fall from the sky and gently glide safely to the ground as you attempt to shoot them down with your slingshot. The only variety is the occasional thunder cloud that hovers back and forth across the screen. Once hit, it will automatically wipe out any and all stars on the screen. Keep hitting the stars and clouds to rack up as many points as you can because once four stars reach the ground and obliterate your flowers, you lose.

To operate your marble shooting apparatus, just tug back on the string and move back and forth and up and down to adjust the power level and direction. This system is very fluid and rarely causes unwanted actions.

The music in the background is very eerie and is complemented with a low-quality “Hallelujah” that sounds once a storm cloud is hit. All together the sounds of the game just take the whole experience down a few notches while some upbeat music would most definitely make the game a lot more enjoyable.

I do admit, it can get pretty addictive. It’s one of those apps that’ll have you frantically trying to beat your last high score and is great for waiting in line or just when you have a spare minute or two. I’m just not sure if it’s actually worth the $2 price, though. There are loads of other mini-game apps with a lot more bang for your buck. Personally, I’d skip this one.
