Stick Wars is a castle defense game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. In this game, you must defend your castle the from the hordes of enemies being sent to you. Opening the app will take you to the main screen. From here, you can view the high scores, view the instructions, change the settings load a new game, or continue a previous game. As usual, I would recommend tapping the "help" option, as there are many aspects to this game that I simply could not cover for this review.
Tapping the "New game" or "load game" option will begin the game. Starting off, the only option you will have in defending you castle is flicking the barbarians to such heights that it kills them when they eventually land. You can see how far you are from completing a round by the location of the sun on the horizon. The cross bones represent how many stick figures you have killed. The health meter in the upper right represents how much more damage your castle can take before collapsing. The more damage your castle walls receive, the more battered they appear to be.
At the end of each round you are given money, which is dependent on how well you defended your castle. With this money you can buy items to help you defend your castle; such as jails to hold prisoners, schools to train wizards, or archers.
This game is extremely addicting and becomes more challenging as you progress. I found myself repeating a level up to 10 times, trying to defeat the countless nameless figures. The graphics are similar to online flash games, which means that they aren't great, but they aren't horrible either. The music is just amazing and really brings a sense of "epic battle" to the field. The controls are simple and intuitive and it is really easy to get the hang of them. The only problem that I have with this app is the inability to view high scores within the app itself. You are instead taken to a page in Safari. With unlimited number of rounds, and potentially millions of enemies, all packaged into an app that only costs 99 cents, I recommend that you download this app today. And if you are hesitant to buy from the app store, or would like to give this app a try, you can download the lite version from the app store as well.
