Games » Swirl Review

Swirl is one of those apps that has seen what the iPhone accelerometer can do and decided to base its entire gameplay off the feature. The game's whole mechanic is to rotate your phone along the different tunnels, avoiding walls and collecting stars. This must be achieved by constantly rotating your iPhone or iPod Touch to some extremely dizzying turns.

The app starts out with only one level unlocked but up to five different worlds can be unlocked with more coming in the next release. The game uses Feint for its online high scores and in-game chat which gives it more of an online replayability. While the graphics and music do look and sound good, I still struggled with how simple and sometimes repetitive the gameplay became.

After spinning my phone for a while, it started to feel like I was playing the same thing over and over again. Another problem that I found, is that if you are prone to motion sickness or dizziness, this app could definitely bring out the worst in you. Yeah, I just put a medical disclaimer in this review.

The app is charging a smaller price for it's thrills, but I personally couldn't see myself playing this for more that a few round before either getting sick or getting bored. If you have a huge desire to spin your device like mad to some trippy music and crazy tunnel vision, this app may fit perfectly into your crazy gaming world. But for most of us, this will only be entertaining for a while before losing its appeal.
