Augmented reality is one of the newest technologies being experimented with on mobile phones. It offers a unique look into the world around you. Now, imagine that technology fused with one of the fastest growing social phenomenons in the world and you get an app that may actually have some weight.
Tagwhat is an app that combines the fun interface of augmented reality with the social aspects of services like Gowalla and Foursquare. But instead of just checking in at a location, users can tag a picture, location, and description to their post. After the post is submitted, users can then use the augmented reality feature to hone in other posts in the area and see what's around them. This was a fun feature but the app has one large problem.
In my area, there weren't many posts from any users except those posts I did myself. This is where the app is going to hurt. If it can't grab a large enough user base who use it frequently enough, it will fall flat on its face. Still, the app is free in the App Store so grab it and try it out yourself.
