TechCrunch Offline Reader is another blog turned app for the iPhone and iPod touch. This app will allow for access to the TechCrunch blog and many others such as CrunchGear, MobileCrunch, and TechCrunchIT. The list doesn't end there with other blogs in other languages also available. For those of you unfamiliar with TechCrunch, it is a blog founded in 2005 that is dedicated to reviewing different companies and products that are making an impact on the internet. Now being available as an app, users can see the latest news and reviews right from their device. Blogs are organized by default in a shelf-like manner, with each blog being represented with an icon. Users can switch to a list view if that makes them feel more comfortable also.
Clicking on a blog will bring you to the posts tab where you can read the different topics available.
Clicking on a topic will go right to that post and give you the option to download the comments . It's important to remember that this is an offline reader meaning once blogs are downloaded, they are on your device whether you have a connection or not. This is a really handy thing for those of you who are constantly bouncing in and out of service, or for those who have an iPod Touch. The issue that comes up is, there is no way to search topics within the app. So posts that are downloaded must be scrolled through if you want to read again. This is a minor issue but it may slow some of you from keeping the app on your device. Things like comments and images can be set in the settings section to automatically download, saving you the trouble of doing it manually. Overall this is a great app with a few small quirks but given the content, it is worth it.
