Touch Meeting is a free web conferencing service powered by Persony. Persony's mission statement is to make web conferencing as easy to use and inexpensive as email. And I would have to say with the Touch Meeting iPhone application, they have accomplished just that.
This app not only allows you to attend, but also host a conference from anywhere that you have service with your iPhone. The app is very easy to use. Within only a few minutes of downloading the application, I already had a meeting up and running and had invited guests to join me. From the iPhone you can invite PC and Mac users alike to your conference by either email or SMS. This is all completely free and you even get a conference number to call so you can talk while in the meeting.
Touch Meeting is limited to 60 minutes per meeting and only allows for three participants. It would be nice to have more than three participants in the meeting, but for a free app you can not really argue and it does work well. By clicking on the attendees tab you can view everyone in your meeting and by clicking on their specific name, you can give them control of the meeting.
Like any online conference, chatting is included and this feature worked flawlessly while testing the app.
You can send messages to everyone in the meeting or choose a specific participant. The only complaint I have about the chatting feature is with the badge number. I would prefer that it show the number of unread messages rather than the total number of messages written. While the attendees and messages interface are not the best looking design I have seen, they are not ugly and they do get the job done.
The best part of this app is the shared display feature. From here you can share pictures and documents including powerpoint slideshows for everyone else to view. From the iPhone you can also share photos from you album or take pictures on the spot and share those.
For the most part this app worked as expected, however I was disconnected twice when the application crashed. Another unfortunate aspect is that the iPhone does not currently support the share whiteboard functionality, but as I said before does have a share display feature that works great. I even shared my entire desktop screen from my computer to my iPhone and although the refresh was slow, I could see everything clearly. The app even supports full screen mode if you tilt it into landscape mode.
All in all, if you need to set up or join a conference and have the need for screen sharing or powerpoint sharing, this app will do you good. But in most cases simply having a conference call with the iPhone and emailing pictures would get you the same results.
