SUMMARY: A wireless mouse and keyboard solution for your Mac or PC

There are plenty of applications that turn your iPhone or iPod Touch into a wireless trackpad for your computer. Touch Mouse is yet another option for you when choosing an application with such capabilities. Made by Logitech, you would think this one would be pretty feature-packed. However, compared to others, this app falls a bit short.

To get the app to work you’ll need to download the free software from Logitech. Once installed, and the server is running on your computer, you can start the application on your device. The UI is simple; showing the mouse buttons at the top and the keyboard, sever and settings options at the bottom. The space in between is the actual touch pad area where you can move your mouse cursor around the screen by using your finger. There is already a problem here, as so many unnecessary items are taking up the valuable screen real estate. Even the status bar stays shown at the top of the screen. There is absolutely no reason why the status bar and the settings can’t stay hidden until needed.

The keyboard works well, with the modifier keys at the top. Your words not only appear on your computer, but also on your device’s screen as you type. The keyboard can be brought up or hidden by tapping the icon in the lower left corner of the screen.

The trackpad is responsive and smooth. I experienced absolute no delay in tracking while using the app. Also, tapping on any part of the trackpad will initiate a left click. This is useful so you don’t have to constantly reach for the left click button at the top of the screen. There are several options to customize your trackpad such as scrolling, tracking speed and sound toggles. You can also set options for using two fingers to scroll, setting the primary mouse button or even choosing to remove the button labels.

Overall, the Touch Mouse experience is a descent one. The app does its job well, offering you a wireless mouse and keyboard solution so you can operate your computer from the comfort of your couch or office chair. However, after using other similar applications, this one just seems to lack some great features that I now find to be critical to my wireless mouse experience. The only thing Touch Mouse really has going for it is its free price tag. If this is your first time using a wireless mouse app, then this one will certainly be adequate for you. On the other hand, if you’ve already tried some similar apps and are looking for a better one, Touch Mouse will not impress you at all. However, being free, I do recommend at least trying it out.
