Trails is an app for the iPhone that allows you to record, export, and import tracks and routes directly to your iPhone. This app offers integration with many services that those who already monitor their trips already use, making the transition to relying on this app very easy.
The app is broken down into three different tabs. The first tab is the My Tracks area. This is where you can create your own tracks using the GPS of your iPhone. You?ll need to add a new track to this tab, name it, and give it a description before you can start. From there you?ll be brought to the track screen which offers you the ability to record the track, view it on a map, or email the created GPX file. The second tab is for the Imported Tracks.
Here you can view all the tracks you?ve downloaded from GPX files listed online or from MapMyRun.com, EveryTrail.com, and Bikely.com. For the listed websites, you can even search directly on the app for trails that you can start using instantly.
The final tab is the Settings tab. This gives you a lot of control over the trails that you make directly using this app. You can configure the app to expect you to be jogging, hiking, biking, or driving. You also have plenty of other options to configure that will directly effect the accuracy of tracking your trail and how it is displayed.
Overall, Trails is a pretty solid app that offers quite a bit of functionality. The ability to download trails from those three sites as well as any GPX file hosted online makes this app pretty handy. While it would be great if they offered some sort of community built in to the app that you could directly upload what you?ve made through Trails, this is definitely a handy app that anyone looking to create or find a running, biking, hiking, or driving trail can definitely benefit from.
