TweetDeck has been available for PCs for quite some time now and has finally made its debut onto the iPhone and iPod Touch. Featuring almost everything that TweetDeck Sr. has to offer, it has now officially become my default Twitter client on my iPhone. The app still features its signature "columns" layout and I must say its implementation on the iPhone is absolutely wonderful.
Using the new 3.0 API options, TweetDeck allow users to browse through their columns just like the screenshots of an app in the appstore and then tap one to bring it up. The app splits up your columns into categories such as Friends, Mentions, and Direct Messages. New columns can be easily added by tapping the plus button at the bottom. This brings up the menu where you can add custom searches, as well as pages for alternate twitter accounts. With a wonderfully snappy interface complete with subtle animations and quiet sound effects, this app was designed for a buttery smooth experience that is as rewarding visually as it is socially.
By pressing the yellow button in the upper right corner, new tweets can be posted. The app makes it easy to post your location, a picture or just your own words of wisdom right from the app. It really is an all-in-one for the iPhone though it is not without its shortcomings. There is really no option for trending topics which, for some of you out there, might make this a no go. But for casual twitter users, this app works wonderfully and really looked great on my phone! Check it out.
