WebMate is a third party browser app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This app brings tabbed browsing to your device in a really interesting and useful way.
WebMate allows you to open links up in multiple pages. There?s an on/off button in the bottom left of the app that determines where the links you tap on will open. If the switch is set to on, all links will open in their own pages. These pages won?t load until you switch over to them, but you can open multiple links at once.
If it?s turned to off, the page that you?re on will load that link. You can close out of a page by pressing the trash icon in the lower right and scroll through the pages through the navigation controls at the bottom of the screen.
The app handles like Safari to a point. There?s no search bar available, no auto-complete in the address bar, and you can?t bookmark links either. The lack of these features keep this app from being your main web browser app, but it still offers quite a bit of functionality to merit downloading, including the ability to view the webpages in landscape mode and the option to load the last pages you visited when returning to the app.
WebMate is definitely a handy app when you want to navigate through the links on a website without leaving the main page. The missing features are hopefully something that future versions of this app will address, allowing you to use WebMate as your main web browser app. Regardless, download this app today.
