Wildfire Fighter is an addictive line drawing game where protecting the people and their homes from fire is the ultimate goal. It’s the dry season, the temperature is hot and fires are starting up all over the place. All you have to do is fly your helicopter over the fire, dump water on it to put it out and you can save the town. It’s a fun game with only minor faults and a few areas for improvement.

There are three different areas where you can fight fires: Idaho, Oregon and Montana. There are also three difficulty settings for all types of gamers. You can play on cool, warm or inferno. You can just imagine what inferno has in store for you. After you pick a state and difficulty level you are immediately confronted with random fires igniting throughout the map. A puff of smoke will give you a clue that a fire is about to start. You can fight the fire with your two helicopters or the big air tanker. Once the fire starts up, you can fly over to it by tapping on the helicopter and drawing a line to it. Once at the fire, all you have to do is tap on the helicopter to drop water onto it. You get three drops before you become empty and will need to fill up again. All you have to do to fill up is hover above a large body of water such as a lake.

If the fires get out of control and it’s too much for your helicopters to handle, you can use the big air tanker to dump a ton of water over a large area. This tanker will need much more time to refill, so it won’t be available for a while after use.

As the game progresses, fires will start to ignite faster and faster, forcing you to utilize all three aircraft at the same time.

Speed is key to stopping the fires from destroying homes. If a house catches fire, or if two aircraft collide, the game is over. Your end score is how many fires you’ve put out during the game.

The graphics and sound are actually quite good in this game. However, the fires and aircraft animations leave much to be desired. Everything just seemed a bit simplistic, and actually reminded me of the original SimCity. The helicopters just seem to instantly stop, instead of hovering with slight motions back and forth. Also, the fires are clearly in a square shape instead of having a more natural form. I would also like to have a way to confirm that you’ve selected a fire to extinguish. At times, I thought I was directly over a fire and released the water, but the fire was still going because I was slightly off target.

Wildfire Fighter is definitely a unique twist on the line drawing genre. It’s fun to play and really does get intense when there are so many fires to extinguish at the same time. The game is addicting but only for so long. With only three maps to play in, which all look the same, content is a bit lacking. If the developer can do a bit more with the animations and add some content along the way, this game will definitely take off. As is, the game is still very fun to play and I absolutely recommend checking it out.
