Wings Galaxy is a new take on using the iPhone's tilt functionality. It tries to incorporate first person flying into a fluid experience that is meant to be more engaging than action-based. The whole premise of the game is that you are exploring the rendering galaxies of space instead of flying through them shooting everything in sight. The app features beautifully rendered art that is definitely eye-catching and creates a great environment.
The entire gameplay of Wings Galaxy consists of 3 different sections. The first is making your way through space. Using tilt, a player must collect enough trillium from floating asteroids around the planet. Once they have enough, the player then enters the planet and begins the next section of gameplay.
They land on the planet and must float around until they find the base. Once the base is found, section 3 of the gameplay begins and they must land their craft to make use of all that trillium and turn it to rocket fuel. The experience is a bittersweet one. It is fun to go through the planets and collect trillium for the first few times, but players expecting anything more than those gameplay mechanics with a story attached will be sadly disappointed. The controls were hard to get down and I still have a hard time making the ship go where I want it to which is definitely frustrating.
Overall, the game may be appealing to some and others will flat out not enjoy it. It's hard to really get the feel of the game without playing it, but I can personally say that it is not my type of game. Check it out if you are interested.
