Clickgamer has put out a ton of applications in the app store, but Zombies vs. Sheep is definitely one of their more successful creations. In this game, your task is to shoot down crazy zombie/skeleton creatures while moving your sheep out of harm's way. The concept is simple, but throw into the mix accelerometer controls and you have a challenging experience for both casual and hardcore gamers.
The game has a sort of Western feel to it, with its solo guitar music, hilly scenery with cactus plants and cowboy hats on the skeletons. The visuals are unique in that the characters and scenery appear to be simple cardboard cutouts. Everything is 2D, yet the artistic design makes it look beautiful and feel just right to go along with the theme. The only issue here is that the scenery stays the same throughout the game. You'll always see that same cactus and those same hills.
The purpose of the game is to protect your sheep as long as possible to gain maximum points. To do that, you have to shoot down skeletons, bats and other enemies that are lowered down on strings. You simply tap the screen to shoot your gun. One head shot will do it, but if you hit the body, pieces of the skeleton will break off and multiple shots will be necessary to defeat the creature. If you don't kill them in time, a fiery skull will drop down above your sheep. If your sheep gets hit, you lose a life, but you can quickly dodge the skull by tilting your device left or right. You can also reload your gun by shaking your device. When you shoot an enemy down, they will drop a coin which you can collect as money. At the end of each wave of enemies you can upgrade your sheep and your weapon. With all this moving of your iPhone or iPod Touch, and tapping the screen to shoot multiple enemies on the screen, all while trying to move your sheep to pick up money, the game can get really challenging.
As you progress through the game, new enemies will appear such as bats and angry suns. Also, the amount of enemies on screen at one time will increase, making it even more difficult to stay alive. But, there are also doves that will occasionally fly over and drop a heart, give you an extra life.
The game is meant to be a quick, pick up and play experience. So, if your sheep dies, you have to start all over from the beginning. There are no levels to start at, but the game does include several achievements which are saved to your Feint profile. Not only is the game fun, but all the unlockables and achievements provide massive replay value. Also, with the integration of OpenFeint, you can chat with other players from across the world while in the app.
Zombies vs. Sheep is another one of those unique games you will quickly become addicted to. What an odd concept, skeletons attacking a lonely sheep. But, once you start playing, you'll realize how great the game feels and how addicting it can be. It's a fun adventure and I strongly recommend checking it out.
